Understanding UV Index

The UV Index is an international standard measurement of the strength of sunburn-producing ultraviolet radiation at a particular place and time. The scale ranges from 1 (Low) to 11+ (Extreme).

Protection Tiers

  • 0-2 (Low): Minimal danger. Wear sunglasses on bright days.
  • 3-5 (Moderate): Take precautions. Cover up and use sunscreen.
  • 6-7 (High): Protections needed. Seek shade during midday hours.
  • 8-10 (Very High): Extra precautions needed. Unprotected skin can damage quickly.
  • 11+ (Extreme): Take all precautions. Avoid sun exposure between 10am and 4pm.
